The Starving Writer came about when I sat down and really thought about my own writing and career path. I had decided I was going to be a professional writer. I would quit my day job and everything would be rosie. After that high wore off, I started thinking how in the world am I going to do that, which I'm not going to lie, stumped me.

I started my quest for information. I write children's literature and I finally stumbled on the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), so I joined. Then I thought I'm doing all this writing but don't have anyone else to read it to let me know if it was any good or needed revision. I thought, I bet there are groups of writers out there who need the same thing. I searched and found a critique group in my area. I was getting my work read and edited, but more importantly I was in a writing community. But how was I going to get published, what was my plan? I did a lot more digging for information. I figured out a few things and when I put them to work in my plan, positive things started to happen.

Early one Saturday morning at my day job I was thinking I should share all of this with other writers in the same literary boat. The light bulb went off and I began jotting down ideas like crazy. And that is how The Starving Writer was born.

Writing is awesome. It is a wild and crazy ride, but it is only the tip of the Popsicle of the journey to becoming a published author.
